Editorial Policy

Last reviewed: 30 July 2026 • Written & reviewed by the ShopTera Editorial Team

In short: ShopTera publishes independent, educational insurance content. We do not accept payment from insurers to influence what we publish, and every guide is checked internally before it goes live.

Purpose of This Policy

This page explains how ShopTera decides what to publish, who is responsible for our content, and the standards every guide must meet before and after it appears on the site. It exists so readers, and anyone assessing our trustworthiness, can see exactly how our editorial process works rather than taking it on trust.

Our Independence

ShopTera does not accept payment from insurance providers in exchange for favourable coverage, higher rankings or promotional placement within our guides. We are not a price comparison engine and we do not sell insurance policies. Our content exists to help readers understand insurance products, not to steer them toward a particular provider.

Where our site contains AdSense advertising or affiliate placeholders, these are clearly separated from editorial content and have no influence over what we write, how we rank information, or which topics we choose to cover.

How We Choose What to Cover

We prioritise insurance topics that UK consumers commonly search for and frequently misunderstand, ranging from cornerstone guides on major categories such as car, home and life insurance, through to specialist topics like named driver cover, no claims bonuses and fronting. Topic selection is based on reader usefulness, not commercial arrangements.

Before Publication

Every guide is drafted using publicly available UK regulatory and industry information, then reviewed by a member of the ShopTera editorial team for factual accuracy, clarity and relevance before it is published. We aim to explain insurance concepts in plain English rather than reproducing dense policy wording verbatim.

After Publication

Insurance products, regulations and market practices change over time, so published guides are not left untouched indefinitely. We periodically revisit content, and sooner if we become aware of an error or a relevant change. Our Corrections Policy explains how we handle mistakes, and our Fact-Checking Policy explains how claims are verified. Details of how we research topics are set out in our Sources & Methodology page.

Authorship & Accountability

Guides are produced and reviewed by the ShopTera editorial team. You can read more about who is responsible for our content on our Editorial Team page. If you have questions about a specific guide, or want to flag a possible error, our Contact page has the details you need.

What This Policy Does Not Cover

ShopTera provides general educational information only. Nothing on this website constitutes regulated financial advice, and this policy does not change that. Readers should conduct their own research and, where appropriate, seek professional advice before making an insurance decision. See our Disclaimer for full details.
